FAQS

You’ve Got Questions - I’ve Got Answers

DO I NEED A DOCTOR'S REFERRAL TO SEE A PHYSICAL THERAPIST?

No! The state of Tennessee allows limited direct access to a Physical Therapist.

WHAT DOES LIMITED DIRECT  ACCESS MEAN?

You can see a Physical Therapist for an evaluation without a referral from a MD under the following circumstances:

1.  If you provide a MD's name to your therapist, the PT must notify them within 5 days of your evaluation that treatment is being initiated, and keep them updated on your progress.

2.  When a patient doesn't provide the name of an licensed medical professional or, expressly states to the therapist that you do not want a licensed medical professional notified of the initiation of therapy, you can sign a consent form releasing the therapist of the obligation to inform a licensed medical professional of the initiation of treatment.

3.  A Physical Therapist can provide screening, wellness and advice for an asymptomatic client.

WILL MY INSURANCE COVER MY VISIT?

Amplitude Sports and Rehabilitation is a cash based business. That means we have not contracted with insurance companies that may restrict how we treat our patients and the comprehensive care that we provide. Therefore, we would be considered an out of network provider. It is your responsibility to check with your insurance provider on coverage for an out of network provider if you chose to request reimbursement from your insurance company.
